Kenya's Peter Kwemoi Ndorobo won the 40th Venice Marathon on Sunday 25 October in 2:07:31, a course record, the organisers report. Ethiopia's Berhanu Tarto Yatede was second in 2:07:47 and Kenya's Dikson Simba Nyakundi third in 2:07:56.

Kwemoi Ndorobo's time was ten seconds inside the old course record of 2:07:41, set by Uganda's Solomon Mutai in 2023, Reference Trail reports. It was the fastest Venice Marathon ever, with three men under 2:08.

Fifteen men passed halfway together in 1:03:39. Kwemoi Ndorobo, 33, made his move on the Ponte della Libertà, the long bridge into the historic centre, dropped everyone except Tarto Yatede, and pulled clear over the bridges of the final kilometres. He said he was very happy to win such a prestigious race and to improve his personal best by almost four minutes, Reference Trail reports.

Kenyans filled six of the top eight places: Kipsang Collins Kemboi was fourth (2:08:06), Evans Kipkorir fifth (2:08:41), Felix Kimutai seventh (2:09:00) and Wesley Ledama eighth (2:09:01), as the organisers list them.
