Fifteen runners make up Team Kenya for the 2026 Backyard Ultra World Team Championship, which starts at Tatu City on Saturday 17 October at 3pm, The Eastleigh Voice reports. The race organisers list the start as 7:00 Central Daylight Time, which is 3pm in Nairobi.
The format comes from Big's Backyard Ultra in Tennessee. Each hour, runners must complete a 6,706-metre loop and be ready at the start line for the next one. Anyone who misses the hour is out, and there is no set finishing distance. In the team championship each country races at home, all starting at the same moment, and every completed lap counts towards the national total.
The team: Reuben Josphat Njorege, Kennedy Mbuyuyu, Stephen Bwire, Eda Jacky, Eric de Wildt, King'ori Wanjiru, Dylan Johnson, Kaka Yusuf, Phyll Nawanjaya, Burton Mudogo, Patrick Scheel Hinojosa, Clement Akach, Dickson Muthiani, Carolyne Wanjiru and Chelimo Kimaiyo.
The Eastleigh Voice says 69 nations take part and that the championship is held every two years. Kenya first entered in 2024.
